Advocacy & Support for Nurses
An award only works if the person applying it reads it correctly.
Called in, then stood down.
Our member was on call and was asked to come in for an urgent case. They left home and drove toward work. Before they arrived, the job was cancelled and they turned around.
No payment, because they never walked in.
The employer refused to pay the call-out. The reasoning was that our member had not arrived at work, because they had not made it inside the unit.
What the award actually said.
Our member brought it to NPAA. Their case manager drafted a letter for them to send, setting out the award clauses the employer had misread.
After receiving the letter, the employer agreed to pay both the call-out and the minimum shift. From first contact to resolution took four days.
If your employer tells you something isn't payable, ask which clause says so.
How is the NPAA so effective in defending members during workplace issues and disputes? Our experienced and professional case managers use our unique RED™ case resolution system.
Why is the NPAA different? We believe that real change in healthcare STARTS with empowering frontline nurses, not bureaucrats.
If you are a member of NPAA and need assistance with a workplace issue, please submit a member support ticket on your dashboard, or contact us at 1300 263 374 - hotline@npaa.asn.au
