Case Win: Pay Disputes in Nursing

How to Deal with Nursing Pay Issues

George, a nurse from the Queensland Branch of NPAA was experiencing issues with his pay rate under the QLD Health Nurses Award. Having completed a new qualification he submitted a request for recognition of qualifications. Sadly the employer did not approve his application due to their interpretation of the award.

Recognising the need for assistance with the issue, George reached out to the NPAA and explained the details of his case. He was assigned a case manager who did some further investigation and confirmed that the DON and HR had made an incorrect assessment. After discussing this with George, they then proceeded to lodge a grievance on his behalf to QLD Health.

Upon review QLD Health acknowledged the error in George’s assessment and confirmed steps were in place to rectify the issue. George received a new outcome letter reflecting the updated pay increment, and over $1000 in back pay.
