Our Executive

The NPAWA executive structure is different to other competitors. Our elected executive consist of a President, Vice-President and Treasurer who must all be nurses, these executive members make all policy decisions for NPAWA.

The Secretary is appointed by the executive under the constitution and does not make policy decisions. Instead, the Secretary sees to the day-to-day operations of the organisation on behalf of the executive.

When we say "Run by Nurses for Nurses" we mean it.

 Niki Gligurovski

President

With over 15 years of dedicated service as an Enrolled Nurse, Niki's journey in the realm of healthcare has been a profound and enriching one. Her experience has been finely honed in the field of post-operative care and rehabilitation, where she has had the privilege of making a meaningful impact on countless lives.

Throughout her career, she's embraced the fast-paced environment of both tertiary and private hospitals, as well as the specialised care and treatment in a private specialist clinic. These diverse experiences have equipped her with a deeper understanding of the intricate nuances of patient care and the importance of tailoring medical approaches to individual needs.

Her passion for health and patient well-being goes beyond the surface level. It is driven by a commitment to upholding medical ethics, advocating for each patient's rights, and pursuing excellence in their care journey. It's this blend of care and dedication that has led Niki to her current role as an Enrolled Nurse at the Perth Vascular Clinic in Subiaco, where she continues to contribute to the improvement of lives and health outcomes with every interaction.

In 2022, Niki made the decision to join Red Union, an organisation that resonates with her core values. The Red Union's shared commitment to prioritising individualised care, providing personal indemnity insurance, and fostering professional growth aligns seamlessly with her aspirations. “This affiliation has not only strengthened my confidence in practicing my profession but also granted me the support needed to navigate the complexities of healthcare with assurance.”

“Taking on the role of President at the NPAWA has been an incredible privilege. This esteemed position allows me to connect with other nurses on a deeper level, fostering an environment where we can share our concerns and insights. By actively engaging in dialogues about the challenges faced by nurses within the industry and their workplaces, I am eager to drive positive change and advocate for the betterment of our collective professional landscape.”

“As I look ahead, I am filled with enthusiasm for the countless opportunities that lie ahead in my journey as an Enrolled Nurse. Each day presents a chance to touch lives, uphold values, and inspire others to join in the pursuit of optimal patient care.”

 Clinton Taylor

Vice President

With a decade of dedicated experience in the field of mental health nursing, Clinton’s journey has taken him through many different settings, from urban environments to regional communities, and even the remote reaches of Western Australia. Over the years, he’s had the privilege to serve in both the capacity of a Registered Nurse and Clinical Nurse, acquiring a wealth of knowledge and skills that have been instrumental in his career.

Currently, Clinton finds himself in the role of a Registered Nurse at The Marian Centre, where he continues to grow both personally and professionally in the realm of mental health care.

“My journey led me to Red Union and prior to joining, I often felt like just another face in a crowd within my previous union experiences, which left me frustrated and disheartened by the lack of meaningful communication and advocacy. This feeling of being 'just a number' was a stark contrast to my passion for nursing, where I believe each individual's unique needs and concerns deserve genuine attention and support.”

As Clinton takes on the role of Vice President of NPAWA, his hope is to be a beacon of change for nurses across Western Australia. Excellent communication is the cornerstone of any thriving community, and he is committed to ensuring our members feel heard, valued, and empowered. It is through the sharing of our collective experiences that we can build a stronger, more united front to advocate for the rights and well-being of our fellow members.

His mission is to foster a sense of unity and collaboration among our members, standing shoulder to shoulder as we navigate the ever-evolving landscape of nursing in Western Australia. “Together, we can drive positive change, elevate our profession, and continue providing the highest level of care to those who depend on us. I look forward to the meaningful impact we can create together.”

 Diedre Reed

Treasurer

Dee is a seasoned professional with a rich background in healthcare and education. A dedicated Registered Nurse since 1986, she further honed her expertise by qualifying as a Midwife in 1988 in the UK. Her passion for midwifery led her to pursue teaching qualifications, allowing her to contribute as a supply teacher in a local middle school.

In 2007, Dee and her family relocated to Australia, where she was sponsored by King Edward Memorial Hospital (KEMH) due to her experience. Over the next 18 months, she made significant contributions at KEMH before moving to New South Wales. There, she continued her impactful work as a Midwife in a local hospital and had the privilege of being preceptor to the inaugural group of direct entry midwives within the service.

Dee’s journey then took her to Wollongong University, where she spent a year teaching student nurses’ and facilitating practical sessions. Subsequently, she transitioned to a fulfilling role in community health, serving as a Midwife in the local Aboriginal health service, a position she maintained until her family’s return to Western Australia in 2016.

Currently, Dee is engaged in part-time work within Child and Adolescent Health services (CAHS) as a Child Health Nurse for the WA Aboriginal Health Service. During the challenging past few years, her commitment to individual choice and concerns for the well-being of her colleagues led her to make a pivotal decision.

She transitioned her allegiance from the ANF to the Red Union, finding invaluable support during the process of addressing letters from the health service. Gratefully, she continues her work with a renewed sense of purpose. “In my role as Treasurer, I aspire to contribute meaningfully to the Nurses Professional Association of Western Australia and eagerly anticipate engaging with fellow board members.”
